Self-care according to Tanja Gardner

As we gear up for the launch of Care Dare on Feb 1, I invited our contributors to share an answer to the question, “What does ‘self-care’ mean to me?”

self-care Our first answer comes from Tanja Gardner of Conscious Introvert Success:

My general definition of self-care is “whatever refills your inner well” – so the specific practices will differ for everyone.

Because I’m so introverted, for me that means lots and lots and LOTS of blissful alone-time. What I’m actually doing during that time matters far less than the fact that I’m doing it in solitude.

I also find that “should”s and “ought-to”s can quickly turn an otherwise recharging activity into an energy drain. Because of that, blocking in time for journaling or meditation is generally less helpful than simply blocking out unstructured “me-time”.

So for me, self-care becomes a practice of giving myself the time I need on my own, without holding expectations about what I’ll do with it.
